Stepping on the Climbing Rope

If you step on a rope, it won't damage the rope enough to effect it much. Most worries about rope damage from stepping on it are greatly exaggerated. This information is from a study done by the German Alpine Club.

The study involved stepping on the rope severely, with crampons, in an effort to damage the rope.

If the crampons were sharpened like a knife, as some ice climbers do, then the rope could be effected greatly. The falls would be reduced to about half. It is still not probable that the straight edge would break or that the rope would be damaged when it is on ice or snow.

In any case, don't try and damage your rope.
