Climbing Rope Research
Today's rope is made of a polyamide fiber. The rope is made up of four kinds of fiber: grating, gear, bicomponent, and air bag. Additional research should be done to make the rope lighter and able to withstand more drops and more straight edges. New rope should also be developed that can withstand water.
The gear fiber will lock into place like gears and prevent the rope from tearing at sharp angles.
The airbag fiber will make the strands hollow and that will make the rope lighter.
Bicomponent fibers are two or more materials integrated together to make a newer stronger filament strand.
A grating fiber will make the sheath and outer rope from getting torn into.
Rope of today is braided with many tiny strands. High tech machines create the rope. It would take many painstaking hours to make rope without current technologies.
Rope research should also create rope that is 100% UV resistant.
